UNCERTAINTY: How effective is alcohol gel in preventing HCAI? (Priority 14) | |
---|---|
Overall ranking | 14 |
JLA question ID | 0088/14 |
Explanatory note | Use of alcohol gel in NHS hospitals is almost universal. However, alcohol gel is not effective against certain bacteria. It may give a false sense of security and may decrease the importance given to other methods of infection prevention such as handwashing or development of alternate effective solutions. Knowing how effective alcohol gel will help in identifying whether there is a need to develop new interventions and use additional measures to prevent the spread of HCAI. |
