There has to be quite a big genetic factor plus a pre-disposition but without stress the person may avoid the trigger. How about lessons at school about stress - if we became more insightful early in our lives maybe we could avoid triggers more easily. ~ If you have a parent with bipolar how can you alleviate your genetic susceptibility to the illness? ~ Is there anything I can do to ensure they do not get the illness? As the years progress I get more confident that they won't, they are now 26 & 24, but I didn't develop the illness until I was 31. ~ Can omega 3 fatty acids prevent bipolar in children of parents with bipolar? ~ Why are there no medications or counselling available to those facing the possibility of the illness. For instance women with a history of breast cancer are screened and given choices and have real care taken whereas a depressed child of two parents with mental health problems is ignored or offered antidepressants which send us manic ~ It would be great if there were a list of risks to avoid for people from families where BPD occurs with some frequency to help them try and prevent/postpone as much as possible? |
